Superbowl and the Olympics!
The Superbowl and great food go together, especially Harman’s Cheddar! Order by Monday night, Feb 2, for delivery before the Patriots and Seahawks face off. There’s also still time to buy some Patriot Moose gear to wear on Super Bowl Sunday!
For addresses east of the Mississippi River, delivery should be on Thursday or Friday. For those of you west of the Mississippi River, you might want to check our transit chart as you might need to ship your package by 3-day UPS to have it before game day.
And let’s not forget the Winter Olympics start this week! The New England States are well represented by 26 athletes. New Hampshire claims 4 of them: Sean Doherty in Biathlon (Vermont claims him, too); Caroline Harvey in Ice Hockey and brother and sister, Grace and Hunter Henderson in Freestyle Skiing. Oh yes, there’s another name you might recognize – Mikaela Shiffrin. She’s from Colorado but lived and skiied in New Hampshire and Vermont during her youth so both New Hampshire and Vermont claim her as an adopted daughter!
Harman’s Inventory Sale
This year’s Inventory Sale is the largest sale we have ever had at Harman’s. Our 2024 Cheddar (aged 20 months) is $11.50 a pound during the sale and all varieties of Castleton Artisanal Crackers are discounted by 15%. There’s over 30 products in the Inventory Sale.
It’s also a great time to try something new . . . perhaps mixing 1/2 cup Wozz! Sticky Date Candied Orange Chutney with a splash of orange juice and adding it to your crockpot of party meatballs. Or take the easy route, just put a dab of the Chutney on a bit of Harman’s Really-Aged Cheddar.
And Maxine’s Cheese Balls have returned. Matt and Carrie at the Wildflour Cafe (in the neigboring town of Lisbon) are now baking our Cheese Balls. Their Cafe opened last year and is very popular with the locals! The Cheese Balls are packed in 4 oz containers, which is a bit smaller than our previous containers, but the price has stayed the same per ounce and in this day and age, that’s good.
Harman’s Older Cheddars: vintage 2021 and 2016
Normally we offer our older Cheddars in March, but this year they will be available starting Feb. 16th (sorry, no advance orders). We should have enough of both vintages so that they last through to the end of the sale on March 14th. I’ll send out an e-mail when the ordering is open in the webstore.
We moved our March Sale forward a couple of weeks, It’s time for some maintenance, not only in the store; but for me, too. My doctors decided that March is the best time to do it. While the store gets a deep clean and floors are oiled, Harman’s Shipping will be closed from March 15th until April 9th. That gives me time for rest and recuperation.
It’s been a cold and snowy winter for much of the USA and we hope you are able to manage without too much difficulty. Mom and I are certainly making a bigger dent in the woodpile this year than past winters. This winter has been colde but the woodstove keeps the house cozy (and the oil heat keeps the pipes from freezing)! Right now it is minus 6 at the store and today’s high didn’t get out of the single digits. But . . . the almost full moon in tonight’s clear sky with the mountains in the background is spectacular! And I know I’m crazy, but when it is this cold, the snow crunches under your feet and I love that sound.
