Field of Lupines Celebration – June 2017

In June, the lupines adorn the fields and back roads of our area with beautiful blooms in shades of blue and purple. To celebrate this burst of color, our area hosts special events throughout the month. We invite you to travel our back roads and take in some of these events.

June: Lupine Inspirational Walk at the Sugar Hill Sampler, 603-823-8478
Walk the mowed path through the lupines and enjoy the poetry plaques

June Fridays & Saturdays: Sugar Hill Historical Museum 1402 Route 117 (Main Street), 603-823-5336
11 am – 3 pm, Admission free but donations are welcomed. Special Exhibits this year:  Our Hat Trunk, you’ll see all kinds of head coverings from days past and present while learning about the history of hat-making and the millinery industry. Special Exhibit in the gallery: Souvenirs.

June Saturdays: Franconia Heritage Museum. 553 Main Street, 603-823-5000
1 – 4 pm, Admission free but donations welcomed. 1870’s New England Victorian Farm House with exhibits on Franconia history and a Special Exhibit in the barn on the Grange organization.  The house is like a visit to your great-grandmother’s attic.  Enjoy!

June Weekends: Horse-drawn Wagon Rides at the Sugar Hill Sampler, 603-823-8478
10:30 am – 3:30 pm, weather permitting. Purchase tickets inside sampler.

June 3: Wildflower Festival at The Rocks Estate, Bethlehem
10 am to 4 pm – $10 Fee. History of the Rocks; Flora; Beekeeping; Mushroom Identification and the Alpine Zone. Tours of the Mile Path (normally off-limits) by wildflower enthusiasts Ann Gruczka & Ginny Jeffryes. Reservations recommended. June 3: Touch a Truck at Dow Field, Franconia
10 am to Noon. Kids of all ages are welcome! Touch a fire truck, dump truck, helicopter, Old Peppersass from the Cog Railway, logging truck, school bus, tractor, and race car. Hosted by Lafayette Recreation & Franconia Children’s Center.

June 3 – 4: Sugar Hill Lupine Celebration at Sugar Hill Meetinghouse, Carolina Crapo Building & Sugar Hill Museum
10 am to 4 pm.  Click here for more information on the market participants; something for everyone: Artisans, Small Businesses, Non-Profits, Seminars, Music, Food and More!  Free parking behind the meetinghouse and handicapped parking on the Meetinghouse grounds.  Event schedule below (check back often as new events are added).

10 am to 12:30 pm:  Free Piano Concert
1 pm to 3:30 pm: Free Concert with Uncommon Folk, Folk music with a bit of Bluegrass, Country and a few humorous stories (some might be true but some are outright fibs).  Paul & Sam Amey with Tom Bishop bring several instruments so look forward to good a time.   Ask why the 4th member of group, Ethel, wears a hat.

June 11: Civil War Era Base Ball at Dow Field in Franconia.
1 pm, Free Admission.  Come step back in time to the era that made Base Ball America’s game.  Maine Dirigo vs New Hampshire Granite; two vintage clubs playing by 1861 rules in period uniforms. Hurlers, Strikers, Ballists, and the Behind make up a team, all with no gloves!  Bring your lawn chairs and root for the team of your choice (that makes you a Crank).  Sponsored by the Woodsville Guaranty Bank with assistance from Franconia Hardware and Harman’s Cheese & Country Store.  Hotdogs and all “ballpark” goodies will be sold by the Adaptive Sports Partners of the North CountryFor more information on Vintage Baseball, check out these links.

The Franconia Notch Chamber of Commerce is working on the schedule of events taking place in June. In a few weeks we’ll be posting the events on this page. The Lupine Photography contest is coming back this year and look for a special twist on it.

Sugar Hill’s Annual Lupine Celebration Market will be held on June 3 – 4, 10 am to 4 pm. We will have a least one free concert and other activities scheduled. Check back as we will post the weekend’s schedule here. Click here for more information on the market participants.
