Sheep Shear Cuttings - St. Johnsbury, Vermont
Back in 1996, Carolyn Guest introduced us to the Polish folk art of Wycinanki. Those were the days before we had our open-air markets (from 1996 to 1999); Carolyn would come over with her sheep shears during the Lupine Festival and demonstrate this folk art of paper cutting that she learned from her IFYE (International 4-H Youth Exchange) experience in Poland in the 70's. She'll be at the Lupine Festial Art Show (June 4-5) and the Sugar Hill Lupine Market (June 11-12).
She'll be demonstrating this craft. It is fascinating to watch her take these shears designed for clipping sheep's wool and turn out the artwork she does. She has cards, matted prints, and framed prints. She was honored as a Vermont artisan and presented Laura Bush with a paper cutting for the White House Christmas Tree in 2006.Click here to learn more about all the market demonstrations.
Click on her www.sheepshearcuttings.com to see or to order some of her beautiful cuttings. Also listen carefully when you are on the website and you can hear her cutting! You can also e-mail Carolyn as she enjoys doing special orders. We carry a selection of her cards in the store, I'm partial to her Christmas cards.
Two Sisters' Garlic
Canterbury, New Hampshire
Naomi Scanlon brings you the benefits & enjoyment of her home-grown garlic year round. Her "bulb-shaped" jars of garlic jelly are attractively packaged, gift-giving ready. Available in 4 flavors: Simply Garlic, Rosemary Ginger Garlic, Mint Garlic, and Red Pepper Garlic Jellies.
Naomi will remind you to not be afraid of using the garlic jellies. Use just a dab on almost anything to "garlic" it up. Use it to baste, marinade, and as a stir-fry sauce . Two Sisters' Garlic jellies make a quick, appealing, & tasty addition to sandwiches, eggs, roasted meats, fish, & fowl; as well as a compliment to crackers & cheese.
The Garlic Shaker Blends are a special mix of garlic, herbs, and spices that we use on or in just about anything: Garlic, Garlic Pepper, and the very popular Blends (with our without salt). Harman's will be carrying these shaker blends and of course, her jellies, all year round. Which is good for you, because Naomi is unable to make it to our Lupine Festival Market this year but told me to save her a spot for the Autumn market, so look for her.
Watch for this Event! E-mail Naomi for more information about her products or future Garlic Days. Harman's will be carrying her jellies all year round.
Julie Nadeau - Waterford, Vermont
Julie Nadeau has been knitting and crocheting her colorful Afghans, Baby Blankets, and Sweaters for Babies & Kids for Harman's to sell year round. She's known for the unique hooded sweaters she makes with the zippers in the back like this one her daughter is modeling. Her items make perfect baby and toddler gifts - or treat yourself to a warm full-size Afghan to snuggle up in.
Harman's does have a nice selection of her products, but you can also e-mail Julie directly to see if she has what you need or perhaps she can make it for you. Julie is unable to come to market, but has sent over plenty of her products to sell at the market.
Rugs by Jerry - Lancaster, New HampshireJerry DeMoras hand-crochets these colorful rugs out of polypropylene cord. They are machine washable and sturdy enough for indoor and outdoor use, almost indestructible. Jerry also makes rugs to order so if you don't see the color combination you want, look at the color selection and design your own rug and Jerry will crochet it for you. He's also such a fast worker that if you order one week, it might be finished by the next week. He and his wife, Roberta (RHD Candy) will be at both markets during the Lupine Festival and if the weather permits, will be on Harman's lawn on June 4-5.
